 Sportsman's warehouse wins innovation award thanks to HighJump WMS

HighJump WMS client Sportsman’s Warehouse was recently recognized as a finalist for the 2017 IRT Retailer Innovation Award in the Supply Chain category.

The IRT awards, in their first year, recognize companies that “aren’t just doing something new, they’re reaping the business reward for the execution of their innovation.” Retailers recognized as winners or finalists have found creative ways to solve the numerous challenges posed by today’s world of omnichannel retail.

Here’s what IRT said about Utah-based Sportsman’s Warehouse:

Sportsman’s Warehouse gives partial credit to a HighJump WMS implementation for the double-digit growth of its eCommerce business and addition of several new stores. The merchant took advantage of adaptability tools inside the WMS to move from solely retail store fulfillment to omni-channel fulfillment.

The outdoor sporting goods store revamped its supply chain to accommodate eCommerce, in-store pickup and traditional brick-and-mortar channels. The flexibility of HighJump WMS was crucial in this transformation, as it allowed Sportsman’s to tailor its system to certain workflows and provided the inventory visibility necessary to find the best way to get a product to a customer.

Specifically, Sportsman’s added new capabilities like parcel manifesting, high-volume less-than-case picking, a speed lane for single-line orders, case lot replenishment and cross-channel inventory availability. These new features created a sustainable model for omnichannel fulfillment. This modernization of the warehouse will benefit the retailer not only in the near future but also long-term as these newer channels account for a larger portion of overall business.

The company started this project with the goal of continuing to grow its eCommerce business, opening more retail stores and increasing general brand awareness. The ability to better serve customers regardless of where they interact with Sportsman’s will undoubtedly generate the consumer loyalty so important to growth in today’s retail world.

Alongside its burgeoning eCommerce business, Sportsman’s Warehouse has 76 stores across 20 states and continues to grow. The company first opened for business in 1986.
